Mob Movies
-All three movie we watched deals with the Italian mob, however they are not all about the same thing. A Bronx Tale deals more with a child who has no born relative in the mob, but gets sucked into this mob that controls the neighborhood that they live in. The mob in this movie really only stays within the Bronx which is predominantly an Italian neighborhood. Although i was absent for 2 days of The Godfather, this movie dealt with the Corleone family. The Corleone family revolved around the godfather(Marlon Brando) and his family of mobsters. If you were born in the Corleone family chances are that you were involved with the family "business". Goodfellas follows the life of Henry Hill and his involvement in the mob. Henry and his two very good friends Jimmy and Tommy work their way up the hierarchy. this movie is a lot different from the other 2 because Henry is not completely Italian and it involves a ton of drug use, which is how they made their money.
Stereotyping:
-all three movies are very stereotypical. from the gigantic Italian families down to the cursing that is very prevalent in each movie. the stereotypes in A Bronx Tale is the most evident. C lived in a very typical Italian neighborhood. people dated only within their race which showed how people thought back then. even C's father who was an honorable man told him that he doesn't want C to be with a black woman. Black people to the Italians were a threat to their way of life pretty much and they never forgot to use racial slurs to display their hatred towards each other.
Goodfellas a true story:
-Goodfellas is a true story based on the book "Wise Guy" by Nicholas Pileggi. all the characters in the movie portray a real life mobster whose names change only slightly in the movie. Martin Scorsese co wrote the script for Goodfellas with Nicholas Pileggi. most of the events the movie depicts actually happened. the witness protection officer who tells Henry and Karen they have no other choice but to join this program was the actual officer who told the real Henry Hill and Karen to join. Henry Hill is no longer in the witness protection program.

Vertigo
i was absent one day so i missed 45 minutes in the middle of the movie, which made it so much harder to understand. i liked the beginning of the movie, or rather the opening title sequence. the opening sequence sort of reminded me of the last 20 minutes of a space odyssey with all the colors and what not. the whole time i was confused why they kept on calling him scottie and john and found it really creepy that he kept trying to change judy by changing her hair and how she dresses to become a spitting image of madeleine. i think i wouldve liked the movie more if i could watch it straight through rather than in a few seperate days.
Notorious
i thought that this movie would be good seeing as i like spy movies, but it never caught my attention. cary grant who plays devlin a secret agent who is supposed to throw alicia into another mans arms to infiltrate a circle of german scientists. problem is, devlin falls in love with alicia while she is supposed to marry sebastian who is a wealthy german business man. i didnt understand what was going on through most of the movie because everything was kind of subtle, i wouldnt even have known they had sex if you didnt say it before the movie started. overall i didnt really like the movie.
Shadow of a Doubt
Charlie is bored living at home with her parents but that all changes when her uncle Charlie comes to visit. Charlie completely loves uncle Charlie and anything he does. as we find later on in the movie, uncle Charlie is a murderer on the run. i thought the chemistry between Charlie and uncle charlie was a little creepy. i kept on thinking that they were going to kiss. i also noticed how the music didnt really fit the picture. there would be times where its very happy in the movie but theres this scary music playing in the background so i didnt really know what to think throughout the whole movie.

Birds
ever since we watched this movie, i think birds are evil. Back in the day those were the best graphics and special effects around. today it seems a bit primitive but it still worked for Hitchcock. i didnt think of birds to be so destructive and menacing but i know better now. i think my favorite scene from this movie was when a bunch of school kids were running away from the attacking birds and a little girl was on the ground face first and a bird was just pecking at her as she was shaking her arms and legs. Hitchcock always seems to make the simplest thing scary.
American Graffiti
this movie was about some kids just driving around the town looking for something to do before one of the characters has to go to college. there wasnt really a story line, but more of just a day in the lives of these certain teenagers. street racing, picking up girls and going to dances was pretty much all they had to do in the movie. since this movie took place in the early 60's all the music was rock & roll and music that reflected the time period. even though there wasnt a story line, i didnt think the movie was terrible and worth watching.
Pyscho
i usually don't like scary movie because they're never scary but i was actually nervous when i was watching psycho. from the beginning i was trying to pin point who the "psycho" of the movie was. we watched this movie for the music, and i agree that the movie wouldn't have been as scary without the music to go along with the picture. we watched the shower scene first with music then without, and in my mind, the scene with the music was soo much better. i think this is one of my favorite movies that we have watched this year.
Edward Scissorhands
i used to watch this movie all the time when i was younger so I've grown to over it over the years. Johnny Depp plays Edward who was made with scissors for hands. before his creator was about to give him his hands , he dies and Edward was left all alone in this giant house on a hill. when he gets taken down to the town, where everything is a solid pastel color, he immediately sticks out. Edward scissor hands is a different kind of Christmas movie but it is one of my favorites.
Network
i wasn't too sure what to expect from this movie from the beginning. i thought the first day we watched it in class it was kind of interesting. but as the movie progressed it just dragged out and i couldn't watch anymore of it. my favorite part of the movie was when Howard Beale dies on camera and everyone thought it was just for the show , so no one helps him.
His Girl Friday
Hilldy, who used to work at the press, was about to get remarried to her fiance. Walter, who is played by Cary Grant, used to be married to Hilldy did not like the idea of her marrying again. he does everything in his power to sabatoge the wedding, by reminding her how hard it was going to be to leave the paper. Walter convinces her to take on one last murder case, she realizes she cant get away from the paper and decides to stay. the first thing i realized from this movie was Hilldy's awful clothes. i dont really remember most of the movie, but i found it to be entertaining and i could stand to watch it.
twentieth century
so this movie was about John Barrymore's character who was a very successful Broadway director working with some wannabe actresses. he finally finds an actress whose name is Lily Garland to be the lead star of his show. as time goes on she becomes very famous and decides to leave but John Barrymore's character follows her to the twentieth century train where this huge chase happens. i didn't really like this movie but i guess John Barrymore's performance was worth the watch
